AAEH 2025, the international conference of AAEH (Asian Association for Environmental History), was held in Kagawa, Japan from 26 September to 2 October. Parallel sessions were held at Kagawa University and two field visits took place at Takahara watermill (Rokujyō cho) and Teshima island (Tonoshō cho).

At Takahara watermill, the participants took a local tour to see the moving watermill and also made udon noodles which are specialties of Kagawa Prefecture. At Teshima island, guided by Toru Ishii, co-chair of Pan-Seto Inland Sea Congress, and Shozo Aki, a member of Teshima Residents’ Council for Waste Management, the participants visited the area where industrial waste had been illegally dumped during the Teshima incident. Some panel presentations about Teshima were also held on-site.

Many researchers and students from Japan and abroad gathered in Kagawa for AAEH 2025, and it provided a very meaningful opportunity to discuss the environmental history of Asia and Kagawa.
